The printer is supported under linux - just search for it on google (linux: canon i550)
i have found this - (installed and works perfectly)

HTML parse error: <ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux> there are also other pixma canon driver - if someone has time - just delete the incompatibility list! cheers! *NB! Will not install on 64-bit OS* ---- Are these drivers open source software? If not, we can mark the device as 80/90% Linux compatible, but leave it on the list as a device which doesn't have open source drivers. If they are open source, we'll eliminate it completely. ---- Open Source? -- why? do you want to change the way your printer works? I think O.S means you have access to sources, one is interessed just to use the printer in Linux - not to modify something in the driver. You can use those drivers for free. I belive ppl come here to see if the hardware or perhiperals that they have can be used in Linux. Now, Nvidia IS NOT Open Source - but supports linux and other OS-es too. Lots of hardware manufacturers give drivers for free so that they're device to be used in other OS-es than Windows! - this means they are incompatible because it's not open source? ---- Open source software has many practical benefits (for instance, do those drivers run on powerpc-based machines?), and also there are people who like to avoid manufacturers who do not provide free drivers, so we generally leave devices listed as 'mostly compatible, but not %100' if they don't have open source drivers. ---- Actually, these drivers are open source. Those binary drivers are compiled for Red Hat 8.0. It does state that these drivers provide the same functionality as the Windows and Macintosh drivers. That could mean it works on PPC Linux, but I highly doubt the pre-compiled available binaries would work on PPC. The binary files may very well be 100% compatabile, even if it isn't open sourced. Nonetheless, for everyone who loves to keep their linux installation "pure", here are the sources.
