Ricoh Co Ltd R5C8xx SD/MMC/MS/MSPro/xD/SC Card reader

Hardware That Doesn't Work with Linux

Manufacturer: Ricoh Co Ltd

Model number: R5C8xx

Many laptops use Ricoh chips from the R5C8xx series http://www.ricoh.com/LSI/product_pcif/pcc to implement PCMCIA, Firewire, and flash card readers. The PCMCIA, Compact Flash, and Firewire interfaces are supported under Linux. The SD, MMC, MemoryStick, MemoryStick Pro and xD card interfaces are not supported because the chip specification have not been released.

PCI id:

SD and MMC cards work starting from 2.6.17 (or you can use patches for earlier kernels from here: http://mmc.drzeus.cx/wiki/Linux/Drivers/sdhci)

The line from mine lspci:

03:01.2 Class 0805: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 17)

Other systems:

03:01.1 Generic system peripheral [0805]: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 19)

However MS, MS Pro, and xD cards do not work yet.
