ASROCK ALiveNF6G-VSTA

Hardware That Doesn't Work with Linux

Manufacturer: ASROCK

Model number: ALiveNF6G-VSTA (AMD 2xcore chip)

Spent a week trying to load a Linux system onto a new build. The distros would fail on install with both 32 and 64 bit versions. Altered the bios (ACPI etc) settings and finally got Mandriva to install but had problems on rebooting, no amount of tricks and tweeks would get it back in graphical mode. Tried PCOSLinux - would not get past the installing system phase, Ubuntu and Kubuntu the same, Suse 10.3 gave a partial install but failed to get it to recognise any periferals, DVD drives or access the internet. As a test of the hardware I installed Windows XP in record time and it ran faster than I have ever seen it.

I was able to use ALiveNF6G-VSTA (AMD LE 1600) with no problems at all using Slackware 12. The installation was smooth and it’s running fine with slackware 12.
