The situation with wifi is a bit confusing because whether a wifi device works or not depends on the chipset, which is not very well connected with the name brand. The other confusing thing is that sometimes wifi cards which have almost the same name are completely different on the inside.

Epson’s and HP’s generally have good compatibility with Linux. Lexmark and Canon generally have bad compatibility. Lexmark’s stated reason “We don’t have the resources.” (quaint:-). LinuxPrinting.org’s database has extensive linux in/compatibility info.

Netgear RP614 - This device keeps freezing (To prevent freezing, a workaround has been found which involves configuring the internet domain name server as that of the provider, rather than the address of the Netgear device)

Linksys WRT54G - This device keeps freezing. (It is reported that it is possible to reflash this device with open source based firmware, which may resolve the freezing problem. However, it is unconfirmed whether this fixes the “freezing” problem.)

Pinnacle MiroVideo DC30Plus - Basic capturing works. No advanced features, no on-the-fly lossless MPEG2 compression. Some inputs are not working correctly. The card won’t run with VIA Motherboards under Linux. Video output is not working at all. There is a Zoran-based cards driver in Video4Linux, but it’s not supporting advanced card features. There is also basic DC30 Series specific driver, but it’s dead as of 1998.
FAST AVI Master - Not a single trace of a driver. It’s based on unsupported Zoran chip. Nothing works.
Mewa Film - Free software for non-linear video editing. It’s very intuitive and simple to use, it promises to be a complete finishing system. You can download it from http://www.mewatools.com

Notes: The AS99127F is a refurbished Winbond chip, so it was possible to guess most things and support is almost complete. Only the PWM support (fan speed control), supposedly only available on some revisions of the chip, is obviously missing. It is also suspected that thermal sensor type can be changed but without a detailed datasheet it wasn’t possible to get it to work. Additional features may be missing, since it isn’t known exactly what the chip can do.
